Executive Director - Laurie Inman, Ed.D

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Laurie Inman brings over 20 years of experience in K-16 teaching, in school and district level administration, as well as in teacher training and professional development. Laurie taught grades K-4 and adult education for the Long Beach Unified School District, before becoming an elementary school principal. This was followed by a six-year tenure as Assistant Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development. During the same time period, she was an adjunct lecturer at CSU Dominguez Hills, providing potential educators with an introductory experience in teacher education. Prior to joining EnCorps, Laurie was a literacy consultant and partner with Smar²tel Learning Links, LLC, where she was responsible for the design, development, and implementation of California state-approved training curriculum; building the capacity of administrators and teacher; and supervising a distributed leadership training model in literacy. She has worked with traditional public, public charter and private schools. Laurie earned an Ed.D in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Teacher Education in Multicultural Societies at USC. She also holds a Masters in Education from the University of LaVerne and graduated from CSU, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communicative Disorders. In addition to heading up the Southern California Program, Laurie is also an assistant professor at USC, teaching a course in Human Differences for the Masters online program (MAT@USC).        

 
Recruiting and Program Mangager - Emily Cannon

 

 

 

 

 

Emily Cannon has been working in schools since she was herself a high school student.  She began her teaching career in 2002 as a New York City Teaching Fellow.  While in that program, she taught in Brooklyn at both the elementary and middle school levels.  After 3 years, Emily returned to her hometown of Los Angeles and taught 5th grade in South LA.  Following work in the classroom, Emily joined The New Teacher Project on the Teach California Charters contract where she ran a nationwide campaign to recruit high quality Educators for some of California’s most rigorous charter schools.  Emily earned a Master’s Degree in Education while in the New York City Teaching Fellowship, and a Bachelor’s degree from UCLA in Art History.

 

Elaine Guarnieri-Nunn - Consultant

Elaine Guarnieri-Nunn has extensive experience in secondary education, professional development and in teacher training.  She has taught social studies in East Los Angeles, New York City and, most recently, at Leadership Public Schools, a charter school in in Hayward, CA.  Prior to joining EnCorps,  she was a faculty member in the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, teaching graduate courses to first-year teachers in Baltimore City.  She has also worked as a program associate at Facing History and Ourselves, a national professional development organization that focuses on social justice issues for middle and high school students.  Elaine was Director of the Teachers' Institute at Goucher College, where she administered a summer program of graduate education courses. Elaine has a Masters of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in history.

 

Chief Financial Officer - Michael Hassid

 

Michael has extensive experience in nonprofit finance andadministration, project management, human resources, and information technology. Having joined the organization in September 2011, Michael manages EnCorps’ day-to-day operations, financial accounting, audit and tax, and administrative support. Michael is the Founder and CEO of OrgAmi, a nonprofit that provides financial management consulting and back-office support to other nonprofit organizations, predominately in the K-12 education reform space. Previously, Michael was the Controller at NewSchools Venture Fund, a nonprofit venture philanthropy firm that funds and supports education entrepreneurs, Controller at Common Sense Media, a national nonprofit focused on media literacy, and Business Manager at the Collaborative for High Performance Schools, a nonprofit working to improve public education by enhancing the environment in which learning occurs.


A native San Franciscan, Michael enjoys “arbocizing,” engaging in sometimes overly ethereal philosophical discourse while savoring his espresso in North Beach, and, in general, honing his skills as a foodie and sommelier.

Michael holds a MBA in finance and organizational development from Masagung Graduate School of Management at the University of San Francisco and a BA in philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley.
