MATH CSET

Math CSET

If you are applying to the EnCorps program, you must take the CSET exam in either Math or Science; other subjects are not allowed.  You are required to take the entire sequence of subtests for math as outlined below.

Math Applicants:

Option One:
Mathematics Credential
Mathematics Subtest I (test code 110)
Mathematics Subtest II (test code 111)
Mathematics Subtest III (test code 112)

Option Two:
Foundational-Level Mathematics Credential
Subtest I (test code 110)
Mathematics Subtest II (test code 111)
Note: A Single Subject Teaching Credential in Foundational-Level Mathematics authorizes teaching only in limited mathematics content areas: general mathematics, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics, and consumer mathematics.

EnCorps highly recommends Option One, the Mathematics Credential.  It allows you greater flexibility when looking for a teaching assignment.

Subtest I covers the following topics:
Algebra
Number Theory

Subtest II covers the following topics:
Geometry
Probability and Statistics

Subtest III covers the following topics:
Calculus
History of Mathematics

CSET Registration

Please visit http://www.cset.nesinc.com/index.asp to register.

We strongly recommend that you do not take all three subtests on the same date. EnCorps teachers have had the most success passing when they break the CSET into two test sittings. PLEASE NOTE: To be a full time teacher starting in Fall 2010 you must pass the CSET no later than March 2010.

CSET Preparation

We strongly recommend that you prepare for the CSET exams.  The CSET website offers sample test material. You can find additional preparatory materials at the Orange County Department of Education webiste.
